This pairing of one act plays will feature a total of 6 actors. In addition to the rehearsal and performance period (mid-November - February 6th), actors will need to be available to participate in the American Association of Community Theatre’s one act festival circuit, beginning with the state festival in March. Due to the festival schedule (see sidebar), actors in this production may not be available to audition for Dance it Out or Veronica’s Room.

Icarus’s Mother by Sam Shepard, directed by Marc Weaver (3M/2W)
Five friends wait for a fireworks display to begin, leading to games of intimidation, loyalties, control, manipulation, and finally the shock of dealing with actual chaos, death, and the consequences of life’s ironic twists.

Rupert’s Birthday by Ken Jenkins, directed by Karen Bain (1W)
A farm woman, Louisa, tells of assisting at the birth of her bull calf, Rupert, who was born on the same day as her brother, Orville, and for whom her regard is higher. Filled with poignant insights about her rural girlhood, the monologue follows the thread of Louisa's life—and makes it clear why the only birthday she acknowledges, or celebrates, is Rupert's.

What to expect:

• For Icarus’s Mother: auditions will consist of readings from the script, no pre-memorization is required. Wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to move.

• For Rupert’s Birthday: prepare a 1 minute, MEMORIZED monologue. Readings from the script will follow.

Actors should arrive by 6:15pm, and bring a calendar of any conflicts between now and June 19th, 2027. (Note, this extended timeframe is to account for potential competition dates - you will not be needed this entire span.) Headshots and resumes are welcome, but not required. Rehearsals will be scheduled based on the actors' availability and may include days, evenings, and weekends. Actors are welcome to audition for one or both pieces. A $100 stipend will be paid at the closing of the show.
